Events, Culture, and the proud home of Scratch DJ Academy LA
It took me a few days to write this because I was still on the high of what February 12th was - Hip Hop History! Nightlife,
Songs in the Key of “D”, Act 2, was an amazing night.yes""> I knew L.A. had love for Dilla, but I had no idea that we,
Beat Junkies, would sell out the Echoplex and had to turn away 300 people. It has been four years since his
passing, and there’s still a void in the music since he’s been gone. But there’s no doubt that he was and
still is the King of the Beats! It
was beautiful to play classic records by Tribe Called Quest, Busta Rhymes,
Erykah Badu, Common, Steve Spacek, Guilty Simpson, Jaylib, etc.; and the crowd
knew every record, word for word.
We also had Slum Village perform and they tore the house down! There is nothing like rockin’ with my
crew as we did our thing on four turntables playing classics, exclusives and
instrumentals, all produced by Dilla, Beat Junkies style! If you missed it, do not worry, because
we documented everything and video and pictures are soon to come! Thank you to everyone that drove far
and wide. Thank you Los
Angeles! We love you Dilla, you
are greatly missed and we will always celebrate your life.
